The Tchaikovsky Symphony orchestra continues a series of performances called “Concerts for Everyone”. Last night the composer, conductor and pianist, Olli Mustonen conducted the orchestra at the Moscow Conservatoire.
The Conservatoire continues making classical music popular. Olli Mustonen is generally known to the public as a pianist, but this week he took up the baton.
Mustonen, 39, has already achieved a career as a versatile virtuoso: he writes plays and conducts music.
Mustonen is not aiming at works which are already popular. He performed three religious musical segments for the orchestra written by himself.
These musical pieces were devoted to his friend, Rodion Shchedrin. Olli Mustonen says that he is returning a favor. Previously, Shchedrin dedicated his Fifth Piano Concerto to him.
Olli Mustonen also conducted a symphony by the famous Finnish composer – Yan Sibelius, known for the images of northern coldness, musical landscape, and a touch of light romance.
