Some of Argentina's best tango dancers have arrived in Moscow to open “The Nights of Milongueros” festival and give a series of workshops.
Moscow audiences have been looking forward to seeing these tango dancers for a long time. Some of them have played a key role in the history of tango, becoming role models for the younger generations of dancers worldwide.
Although Russia's tango community is one of the youngest in the world, it's constantly growing. Today the tango as a social dance has a big following. They’ve done their best to popularise the most passionate variety of the tango in Russia.
This is the sixth festival to be held in Moscow, but the first time a Russian quintet – “Soledad Orquestra” – has performed live tango music. They rely heavily on improvisation and their skills are quite valuable especially during “milongas”.
Milonga is the name given to tango dance parties. People who dance at milongas are known as milongueros.
Such parties usually last till dawn.
