The "enfant terrible" of French fashion, Jean Paul Gaultier is staging a fashion show in one of Moscow's oldest train stations.
The world-renowned fashion designer told journalists he had always dreamed of having a show in such an unusual setting.
“A train station is a symbol of traveling, and my collections are always a kind of travel. Some time ago I wanted to stage a fashion show in the Lyon train station, but I couldn’t. And suddenly my dream comes true in Moscow!” Gaultier said. “Although I saw Kazan train station only in the photographs, for sure it’s the most beautiful station in Moscow.”
Indeed, the Kazan train station is a very special and symbolic place. One of the oldest of Moscow’s stations, it was built in 1862-1864 and 50 years after was redecorated by legendary Soviet architect Shchusev, who used the masterpieces of such painters as Alexander Benua, Nicholas Roerich, Boris Kustodiev, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, Ivan Bilibin and Eugene Lansere.

The show will be part of the annual Black Cherry Wood Festival of Arts bringing star-studded premiers and concerts to the capital.
Gaultier is to present the retrospective of his “haute couture” collections prepared especially for the festival. The selection includes the models inspired by Mexico as well by 20th century Hollywood studios.
“I am very happy to be in Moscow again,” he said. “I first came here in 2005, and the city charmed me at first sight. Russia has always inspired me: two of my collections are devoted to this country. It’s amazing how fast Moscow is changing. It seems that very soon Western Europe will be merely a ‘sputnik’ of the Russian capital.”
