Moscow's gearing up for the start of Russian Fashion Week – time for the country’s top clothes designers to show their stuff to the rest of the world.
The catwalk shows of the 18th RFW, fall/winter 2009/2010 season begin on March 29, but the glitz and the glamour has already kicked off with an opening night party on Saturday.
The biggest fashion event in Eastern Europe will feature some 50 designers from all across Russia and beyond.
On Sunday, one of Russia’s most famous fashion designers – Slava Zaitsev – will present his haute couture collection. Sometimes called “Red Dior” by the western media, he began his fabled career in the 1960s. His new collection is dedicated to the 100-year anniversary of Dyagilev’s Seasons in Paris. The ballet impresario and founder of Ballets Russes conquered Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.
Also, French fashion legend – Jean-Charles De Castelbajac – will make his RFW debut on Sunday. His previous collection received a very warm welcome from Russian fashionistas.
“Russians are extravagant people and I think it’s a very good moment for extravaganza,” the designer said.
Spain’s Toni Francesc and Maria Lafuente will also present their collections at RFW, which runs through April 4 at the Congress Hall of the World Trade Centre in Moscow.
