Human rights groups have praised the decision of Oscar-winning film director Steven Spielberg to withdraw as artistic adviser to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Spielberg says China is not doing enough to persuade Sudan to end the violence in its wartorn province of Darfur.
China sells weapons to Sudan, and is thought to have special influence with the country, as it buys two thirds of its oil.
Darfur's splintered rebel groups have also welcomed Spielberg's decision.
