Katrina, In the USSR, women were getting breast implants while children couldn't even get "free" healthcare. Desperation. It has always been and it will always be. But your assertion that their children had no access to healthcare services is not credible since the Soviet Union had the best medicine in the world and Russia still has one of the best education system in the world. However, it was also true that women in the Soviet Union were more advanced than their western counterparts in gaining admission to studying in science and medicine much earlier and in a higher numbers than women in the West. This is a fact that western feminists often seeks to suppress. Now, let us move to post Soviet Russia. How are we to explain the commodification of Russian girls/women by the sex and the beauty industries? Is this what democracy western style offers Russian women?
