Russia's Elena Dementieva has defeated Serena Williams in the women's final at Moscow's Kremlin Cup to win her hometown title for the first time. It was her first victory against the American in five attempts.
Dementieva recovered strongly after losing a tight first set 7-5. She went on to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1, to ensure victory.
On receiving the trophy, Dementieva, who will be 26 on Monday, dedicated her success to the late Boris Yeltsin.
