CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow out of UEFA Cup

On Thursday, it turned out to be a bad night for Russian teams in the UEFA Cup. Both CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow are out after they lost away from home, visiting Israel’s Maccabi Haifa, and Spain’s Celta Vigo, respectively.
Spartak Moscow lost 2-1 to Celta Vigo, Spain.Trailing 2-0 with 12 minutes to play, Spartak got one back on the 88th minute, but could not find the equaliser that would have sent them through on away goals.As for CSKA Moscow, the 2005 winners of the competition and the winners of the Russian Championship lost because of a 14th minute goal from Maccabi Haifa.The first leg had finished goalless in Moscow, which left no chances for the guest team.“It is difficult for me to comment on the game after the match. We should have scored when we had our chances during the game. It is a pity that we lost. I think, overall it was a good game,” said Valery Gazzaev, CSKA head coach.
