Cossack Beauty Queen: but can she ride?

Russian Cossacks have chosen their Beauty Queen. The winner had to show a lot more than just good looks. Flouncing down the catwalk wasn't enough. Something more strenuous was required.
Famous for their self-reliance and horsemanship, the Cossacks have made horses and riding an integral part of their lifestyle for centuries. In pre-revolutionary Russia they provided the Empire's best cavalry. So in this contest, riding was part of the selection process.

They had to impress the jury with their stunts – on horseback of course.
They also had to sing, do sketches, and dance – ballroom style.
The winner – seventeen-year-old Katya Zhukova – the new young Queen of the Cossacks.
