The man Bill Clinton hails as his favourite living saxophonist, Russian Igor Butman, has unveiled his new album in Moscow. He’s turned to popular Soviet soundtracks, which turned into modern jazz classics.
Igor Butman presented his new album in Moscow by playing live to the excitement of his fans and friends.
The release, called “Magic Land”, is inspired by soundtracks from Soviet cartoons of the 70s.
Some of America's most acclaimed jazzmen, including Chick Corea and Randy Brecker, took part in the recording.
Butman said they were just as charmed by Soviet animation – especially of “The Bremen Musicians”, as he was as a child.
“I remember sitting and listening to the music from ”The Bremen Musicians“ at pioneer camp when I was seven. There was this big pole and a big speaker attached to in. Every hour they replayed that music. Even now I think it's the best music from cartoons ever,” Butman said.
