Camp-bed as Fine Art in "Dormitory Town" Exhibit

Moscow Museum of Architecture has opened an exhibition called  “Dormitory Town”. Young excentric painter Ivan Lungin uses the trapaulin of a folding camp bed for his canvass and the metal frame – well, for his frame.

Ivan Lungin has been living and studying in Paris since the age of thirteen. On the rare occasions he returns to Russia, he camps out at his friend's place on a folding bed. Subsequently, he uses such beds for his creations. Townscapes of Moscow, Venice and Paris neighbourhoods are featured at the exhibition. 

“Basically the fabric is a similar type of canvas. Only I can’t paint in oils on it, because I need to fold the beds up again!” the painter remarked.

In the world of art as anywhere else, it is hard to come up with something new. Everything seems to have been done before. Ivan Lungin’s expressionism looks modern and fresh. It reflects his lifestyle and his “frame” of mind – and matter.
