Some of Russia’s most promising ballet dancers – the leading light of the Bolshoi Theatre– will take part in the international project to be staged in America.
Three up-and-coming stars of classical choreography – Natalia Osipova, Ekaterina Krysanova and Ekaterina Shipulina – are set to appear in a multi-national performance entitled “Reflections”.
Preparations and rehearsals are expected to take place at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in California.

The project is the brainchild of the American producer Sergey Danilyan, best-known for his “Kings of Dance” performance featuring top international and Russian male ballet stars.
Danilyan told Itar-Tass news agency that this time around the main idea behind the “female project” was to “unite graduates of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography in one performance, giving them a chance to work with the best contemporary choreographers whose interests range from modernism to neoclassicism.”
It is known that one of the choreographers engaged in “Reflections” will be celebrated Spanish artist Nacho Duato who was recently appointed head of the ballet company of one of Russia’s oldest ballet and opera houses, the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg.

A performance in three acts, “Reflections” also promises to feature contemporary dance from cutting-edge Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, Britain’s Wayne McGregor, and three American artists: Karole Armitage, Lucinda Childs and Yury Possokhov.
Along with the Bolshoi Theater, several other Russian dancers are due to take part in the project, namely Maria Kochetkova from the San Francisco Ballet company, Olga Malinovskaya from Estonia’s National Opera and Staatsballett Berlin Principal Dancer, Polina Semionova.
The world premiere of the performance is scheduled for January 20, 2011, after which “Reflections” will eventually travel to the Bolshoi.
