Matryoshkas instead of traditional crystal statuettes, presenters dressed as Russian fairy tale characters, and a couple of spicy scandals on stage. These were the trappings for the fourth MTV Russia Music Awards ceremony held in Moscow.

Over a hundred million Russian viewers were glued to the screens to see a few thousand others watching their idols live.

MTV Networks International has almost 100 TV channels across the world. The shows staged by the Russian station, are considered to be among the most expensive.

The ceremony gathered crowds of adoring fans, proving that the music industry in Russia is raring to go. The-three-hour long show brought over 90 singers to the stage and set a record, even beating ceremonies in the U.S.

The belle of the ball and surprise guest was Canadian pop princess Avril Lavigne, who was also given The Best International Singer award. She lit up the ceremony with an incredible live performance, proving that lip-synching is not in vogue any more.

A famous pop-singer, Dima Bilan, who won in different categories, scooped up three Matryoshkas.

“I know why this happened – because I have so many friends – my beloved fans, who buy my albums,” he said.
