Moscow Fashion Week, one of the most significant events in the Russian fashion business, kicked off on Saturday to present the latest trends from Russian designers.
The Russian capital has once again been swept by fashion fever. The Gostiny Dvor merchants hall, right next to the Kremlin, is the showcase for the autumn-winter 2010-2011 prêt-à-porter collections from over 50 Russian designers. And whereas previous weeks’ schedules included foreign names, this one is devoted exclusively to domestic fashion houses.
The first day of Moscow Fashion Week was opened by showcasing the collection by Russia’s premiere couturier, Valentin Yudashkin. He presented the new collection which was already appreciated by fashionistas earlier this month at the Fashion Week in Paris. The designer believes 1980s classics will be this season’s main trend.
“He doesn't try to create a revolution. He doesn't try to prove a point. He simply makes elegant, feminine clothes and every design on the catwalk… you can just walk down and wear it in public,” says Vlad Lisovets, a celebrity stylist.
Each day of this Fashion Week, up to 10 collections will be showcased on the catwalks. Among others, this week will feature collections from Alyona Akhmadullina, Ilya Shiyan, Max Chernitsov, Leonid Alexeev, Kira Plastinina and Alina Assi.
“You see a lot of new talents new designers coming up. And you see that the world is waiting for Russia. So many things are happening here among the young people, new ideas and so on,” says Keith Shafer, the organizer of this Fashion Week.
Along with the latest clothing highlights, this Fashion Week offers a string of sideshows, including a photo exhibition and a number of charity events.
