Congratulations to crew of the "Moscow University” for their quick action to thwart pirates' attempts to capture their ship. Further congratulations to the crew of the "Marshal Shaposhnikov" and any other Russian forces involved in the rescue. I hope the Russian courts can find suitably cold and unpleasant prison in which the captured pirates can live out the remainder of their worthless lives.

Way to go Russia! The Moscow University crew had a well thought out contingency plan, executed it well. The Russian Navy was strategically deployed, well trained and both courageously and flawlessly executed the rescue. If the other great maritime nations will follow Russia's lead, then the solution to the Somali pirates may be at hand. To all the big shipping companies: This event emphatically demonstrates why you should register your ships with the home team and crew them with your own sailors. This dramatic rescue would not have been possible if the Moscow University had not been flying the Russian flag, carrying a Russian crew!

Outstanding, maybe they should have a special ceremony on Victory Day to honor these brave men. Both the crew and the special forces that carried out this mission should receive medals on victory day. Congratulations to Russia for leading the way, I hope other nations follow their example.

Dear Russia do not Bomb Somalia! May 06, 2010, 20:14 quote

I am a Somali and I love Russia. I got my own G. George yellow and back ribbon to show my support for the Soviet/Russia Great Victory over the forces of Fascism. Thus, I find it hard to accept that 37% of Russians posting at this site site want the Russian navy bomb Somalia because of the piracy incidence! Do these people know that the people of Somalia are victims of the NATO/U.S aggression as well as piracy. Do Russian people know that a cynical geopolitics is at play here?

WELL DONE!!! The Russian Marines acted well and bravely and saved the hostages. The pirates deserve NO mercy. NATO should bomb, use helicopter gunships and Special Forces to liquidate the pirates, their leadership and destroy their strongholds. Then the UN should take over Somalia and impose martial law enforced by a UN Peacekeeping Force. This should then be followed by free and democratic elections to set up a functioning government.

I think there is more to these piracy stories that is reported in the main stream news. What would drive people to risk their lives and engage in criminal activity for huge sums of money in a region that rarely sees that amount even after a lifetime of work? Are Europeans dumping waste of their coastlines? Are there other injustices that could be the cause? @Dear Russia, I don't support bombing Somalia. I doubt I ever will nor will any of my acquaintances, friends, and family. I can't think for the government, but I won't support or vote for anyone who does want global adventurism. I think their actions are wrong even if they are themselves receiving some sort of injustice. Maybe peaceful resolutions are for them better than just blowing everyone away. I for one, don't judge nations by individual's actions. I also don't judge individuals by their nation's actions. So if anyone is in government that reads this, I suggest you do NOT bomb Somalia as it is not going to solve any problems.

The Russians performed correctly this time. Piracy is not to be tolerated. I have no empathy for pirates. Reality has shown that strong correct action is needed at times and so I have to think,"Bravo," to the Russians this time.

Those somalian men do piracy not because of boredom or need for adventure. Their land is poor, their society is split. No country consider Somalia as a country. So everyone takes no responsability for fishing or wasting dump even in their coast waters. So I much dislike it that everyone talks only about somalian piracy but not it's real causes.

Nice acion by the Russians. Bad report though, the helicopter and onboard footage are from the Dutch resque of a German freighter some time ago in the same region (which you would notice when considering the marines are landing on containers, which are defenetly not on an oiltanker...).
