Israel says there's no time to waste and the moment to act on Iran is now. Tensions between the two countries seem close to the boiling point, with many experts saying Israel could be considering a nuclear attack.
“Not only that nuclear Iran will expose an existential threat to the state of Israel, it will also be a threat to all Gulf states, the Near East and the entire world, taken into consideration that there are vital interests of the US and Europe in the Middle East,” explains General Danny Yatom, former chief of the Israeli intelligence agency, the Mossad. “If Iran has a bomb, all the rules of the game will change for the worse and the world will be in disorder. So there should be a solution. I hope it will be peaceful, but I’m not sure it’s possible.”
But even if Iran finally acquires nuclear weapons, it won’t be directed at Israel, argues Samih Abdallah, assistant editor-in-chief from Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper.
“It will be directed not at Israel, but at the Gulf states, as Iran would like to increase its influence and have a more powerful role in the area,” says Samih Abdallah.
Even with Iran not yet having a nuclear bomb, things don’t look alluring, he says.
“Israel is a nuclear power and as long as Israel keeps its nuclear capabilities, it will give room for Iran to debate the issue,” says Samih Abdallah.
Professor Anatol Lieven from King's College in London says an Israeli attack could be catastrophic for relations between the West and the Muslim world.
“The consequences, in my view, will be absolutely disastrous. It would unite Shiite and Sunni against the United States and the West. It would lead to Iranian support of the Taliban in Afghanistan – and will lead to a very rapid loss of that war by the West. It would encourage radicalization and terrorism in many parts of the Muslim world. I can hardly imagine one single act which would be worse for relations between Islam and the West or for the West’s position in the Muslim world.”

Shika, I will try to answer the question you asked, "Why do Israel need nuclear weapons?" It is about survival as a people. The world has tried many times over the last two thousand years to eliminate the Jewish People. History proves this. To understand the Israelis' you have to put yourself in their shoes. If I were an Israeli jew whose parents or grandparents were victims of Hitlers Final solution, I would be very suspect of Irans' Intentions. Look at what the Shai Islamists believe , they await the arrrival of the great Mahdi, who is suppposed to rid the world of the jews. Take the time to read the Quran, and see how quickly Mohammed condems the Jews as the worlds greatest evil. Now put yourself in the shoes of an Israeli: You live in a very small nation, you are surrounded by 330 Million Muslims, who would love to see you and your nation all dead. the enemies around you are not as well trained or equipped but they have great numbers and are full of hatred for you. You know The Muslims have tried unsuccessfully to wipe Israel of the the map in 1947, 1956, 1967, 1973. And in your heart you know, They are never going to give up trying.... Now Iran is working night and day ( with Russia's help) to develop Nuclear Weapons. The whole world knows this. Irans President has publicly called to the destruction of Israel. " Why do Israel need Nuclear Weapons? " They have no choiice but to have them, and no choice but to be ready at all times to use them against all who come against her.
Yes, there can be a peaceful solution to Iran's nuclear ambition if the US, EU, IAEA, and UN stop the double standards and hypocrisy of trying to prevent Iran and the arab countries from getting nuclear bombs while turning a blind eye to the 200-300 nuclear bombs that Israel possesses. The US, EU, IAEA, and UN have a responsibility to treat countries equally and fairly, and not to favor one country over another. as they have clearly done for Israel. The US, EU, IAEA, and UN need to decide whether or not they want the Middle East to be free of nuclear bombs. If the answer is yes, they should put the same pressure on Israel to give up its 200-300 nuclear bombs that they are putting on Iran and the arab countries to prevent them from getting nuclear bombs. Otherwise, Iran should never give up its legal right to enrich uranium or make nuclear bombs. The double standards and hypocrisy of the US, EU, IAEA, and UN is outrageous and should not be tolerated by any country, or the world.

From Ibarruri, in Lagos, It is pure insanity , to proceed along the path of appeasement of Isreal as a nuclear state .the way the USA, EU, IAEAand the UN are doing while stigmatizing Iran as a threat to the International community. It is a further perpetration of the imposition of discrimatory strategic military advantage to an ally of imperrialism and colonialism started in 1917 by the British. The way forward is one which enthrones the destuction of Zionism as an inhuman ideology , like APARTHIED was. Then setting up a Palestinian state with all the lost rights of the Arab palestinians restored on the seized lands now called Isreali occupied territories where both Jews and Arabs live in equality will naturally follow. Mankind abhores the current mentality of Isreali supremacy preservation inherent in all Western proposals in this sphere.
