New chemical element to be synthesized in Russia

Russian physicists are trying to synthesize a new chemical element which would fill in the gap in Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, pertaining to the atomic number 117.
Has anyone any idea exactly how many elements have been synthesized above atomic number 92 ? I have been looking on the internet for at least five years and I believe there are a few gaps in the elements numbered 110-120. However, two of my friends think there may be far more elements made than most people are prepared to admit. I am very sceptical about the views of my friends. I keep an open mind. I do not want to start a conspiracy theory. Any ideas ?
@Paula, the current periodic table has 117 elements on it up to #118 (#117 is missing).
Thank you Meh. I had a strong feeling my friends were giving me false information.

Cool, I've always been a fan of chemistry. I wish i pursued a life in it.
