Just to make this clearer: only one group was chanting in favour of Shariah law in the UK, and that group numbered in the, what, dozen? (looking at the demo on Russia Today's newscast). The real demonstration was between Unite Against Fascism (which turned out 1000+ demonstrators and have no interest in Shariah law - check their website) who were indeed there to oppose the EDL. Sam, I absolutely agree with you that if you have managed your country well and were fortunate to have a unified homogenous culture then you can do what you say. The problem is that once you open the floodgates, and let in others who have different cultures..... and they become a critical mass and part of your electorate, then you are stuffed by the very democratic principles that you started out with, those that were supposed to give you freedom. You find yourself up a creek without a paddle. Basically you submit, because the other culture generates more kids, or you start the evil killing. Widespread immigaration, is a huge problem, it starts for different motives, financial, aid..... but then winds up a difficult mess. Add to this the fact that you then make their countries of origin another total mess for profit, and you have one huge global mess. This does not mean you should not be multicultural, multilingual...you should, it just means you need manage it, in terms of source by demand, and destination with controllable rate and density. That management must as a priority be helping build back up the critical mass of the originating countries so that there is huge advantage to return, plus a tolerant just set of SINGLE rules that can apply to everyone. Imagine people go and change their countries to 'democracy' then moan when they want to change the others countries to Sharia or something else. If you don't have viable countries, you just have endless country transforming diaspora, a globalised mess as every one wants a home, so everything is up for grabs. PR101, Your comments are fully accepted, I tried to widen the discussion with 'Sharia or something else' because I think there are really much bigger issues with imigration than Sharia, and that what Saria is and what it can be 'used' to mean can be a problem in itself. I honestly believe you do need responsible immigartion, and you need a sensible dicussion on it. The groups on each side are trying to prevent this, so as to try to assert tribal dominance. This is what you get in no holds barred tribal conflict for supremacy, rather than a system of laws that embodies tolerence and real protection for cultural diversity. Doing nothing is not an option, neither is being held hostage to diversionary fights, to prevent those discussuions and laws.

Sharia Law or any other relgious based law has no place in the UK. The UK is a secular democracy. Sharia law is unfair to women and children and to non muslims. It belongs in the dark ages and has no place in 21st century Britain. The other danger this country is facing is the rise of fundamentalist christianity. On a practical point - can you imagine the chaios of allowing every relgious group to be allowed to be governed by their own laws and courts. When talking about Sharia law - which version of Sharia are you talking about - Suni Islam has four major schools of law - you then have the Shia tradition - I am not sure how many schools of law they have and then you have the various Sufi orders!!!

I am from the UK and I don't want sharia law in my country. I am a christian but don't force my belief's on others. One law for all and that is secular law.

Don't allow sharia law in UK. If UK do that mistake it will loose their right to speech. Just tell them if they want to live in UK they have to obey the laws of UK or else go back and live in those radical countries. Long live right to speech.
