Located on a busy highway in central Russia, a small town in the republic of Mordovia carves out a living by serving hot meals to drivers. But with the recession biting hard, has this town got the stomach to survive?

My parents come from Mordovia, so we often drive by when we pass Umyot (that's the way you should spell it - not Umet) when we go to visit relatives. I've never dined neither in Nika, nor in Samsung or MordDonalds, though. Will try ;) I know businesses there were terrorized by some hoodlums, at least in the lawless 90s. But it happens everywhere, esp. on the road, I think. Anyway, I've never been affected by anything bad there. So DO drive by and taste meals there, they're cheap and home-made, I think you'll like them.
