On the sidelines of the nuclear summit in Washington, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev found time to meet with the head of RT, Margarita Simonyan.
Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney (Republicans) will try to unseat my beloved President Obama in 2012. I am one man with one vote in the United States. I will do my best to keep Mr. Obama in office. I have a BIG MOUTH. If my President is defeated (unlikely) in 2016 elections, then I will raise a loud sound of discontent in this country. Gene Hopkins San Francisco, CA, USA
Error on my part, The Republicans will try (to no avail) to unseat President Obama in 2012, not 2016. My bad. In 2016 President Obama will no longer be eligible for re-election. Gene H. San Francisco, CA, USA
This interview lacked depth. It is most unfortunate that President of Russia spent half of this interview discussing the Health care Policy of the President Obama as a model for Modernising Russia! This is badly informed premise and not because of this policy is opposed by Constitutionalists /right leaning groups but because it strengthen the hands and pockets of the pharmaceutical control of U.S healthcare. President Medvedev is shockingly misinformed about the so-called the U.S Healthcare reform and RT chief editor was way off the mark when she started her interview with the President with the U.S healthcare system. Sadly, The President of Russia looks and acts with surface mask and fake smiles that is typical of the American politician.
President Medvedev gave an excellent interview to RT. RT will soon be at the apex of the news world and will serve as an example to all what a truly great news broadcast should be. I find myself always refreshed when I tune into my morning RT broadcast. I compliment RT for their choice of staff in front of the camera and behind. I find one fault with RT. RT should present more coverage of Russian Federation's entertainment such as concerts, folklore, dances, etc. One hour of such coverage will give some cultural balance to politics and world affairs.
I generally like Medvedev but here I found his answers really lacking in depth and sometimes absolutely off the point. That wasn't a memorable interview at all. First he speaks about obama's health care plan, which is both off the question ( how to push modernisation through) and a US internal affair he shouldn't state an opinion on. Then in his next answer, the thing that impressed him the most when he came to the US for the first time is young successful people eating hamburgers and drinking coke?!seriously, this is a childish answer, not one a president should give ( again, the question is what do you think of the US and what were your first impressions, and the answer is: they have a big variety of food(?!)). As for his answer about Stalin, I had to read it twice before understanding his point, it's really a messy answer. Bottom line: unprofessional, superficial and thoughtless answers, and I can't help missing Putin interviews.
I thank Mr. President for truth about Katyń.
Dear Mr. President! May the Lord bless you for your words of truth about Katyn. Please accept the heartfelt gratitude for your great heart and great solidarity in these difficult times for Poland!
Lisa: "Then in his next answer, the thing that impressed him the most when he came to the US for the first time is young successful people eating hamburgers and drinking coke?!seriously, this is a childish answer, not one a president should give..." Obviously, Medvedev's purpose for the interview and his responses to the questions are beyond your "childish" intellect to comprehend. His "hamburger" response was an analogy. Do you know what an "analogy" is? Medvedev's "hamburger" analogy was meant to convey his respect for the American quality of hard work where various people of NYC grab a quick lunch (hamburger & coke) and then go back to work.
Spasiba, Russia. Thank You for what You've done for us in these hard times. Thank You.
Thank You very much Mr President Poland
Lisa I am glad somebody noticed President Medvedev’s reference to drinking coke and eating hamburger! I thought this comment was beyond stupefying! This guy lives in Moscow and he is awe struck with the sight of people eating hamburger and drinking coke! He is this example of his idea of modernising Russia?
Big Pharma, Exactly! I laughed so hard, especially that Medvedev began the answer with " it's something I've remembered it for the rest of my life" ;) I expected some earthshaking event and here I read that it's about wealthy people eating hamburgers and drinking coke! God he's easily impressed;) Kihnu, Why are you getting all worked up by my comment;) Take it easy! There were no need for this paragraph of yours: "Obviously, Medvedev's purpose for the interview and his responses to the questions are beyond your "childish" intellect to comprehend. His "hamburger" response was an analogy. Do you know what an "analogy" is?". I understand your interpretation of Medvedev remark ("Medvedev's "hamburger" analogy was meant to convey his respect for the American quality of hard work where various people of NYC grab a quick lunch and then go back to work.") but I still think that he's easily impressed if he judges people hard work from the fact that they eat fast food. American quality of hard work has nothing special, see the japanese, chinese or german quality of hard work for example. And again, the whole interview is very superficial. It's like the interview of some man on the street, not the President of Russia. Another funny example, about the Polish President plane crash: " There was something mystical about it, and perhaps there were rational reasons too". He's not sure there are rational reasons, just Perhaps! or for example: the journalist starts saying : You lived in Soviet times like me, like most of the Russians…" to what Medvedev says": I lived longer than you." seriously! ;)
Medvedev is one of the few politicians who can think while he talks. This is evident by his ability to comprehend the question and rationally formulate a response. When he gives a long response, he sequences from one thought to the other in a logical manner, instead of just rambling out words that are meaningless, but sound impressive. I especially enjoy the easy going manner of his speech and the way he conveys his thoughts which is unusual for a politician, and especially for a Russian. Medvedev will win reelection because Putin would never dare to debate him. His interviewer was a pleasant young lady, but she spent too much of her time pushing the hair from the front of her face. RT should next time give her a ribbon to tie her hair before she conducts an interview.
Well, what can we say? Thank you Russia. For everything you've done for us in these sad days. We'll never forget it!
Lisa, I saw this aspect subtle of ever present school boyish/ junior freshman aspect of President Medvedev last year when gave an invited lecture to the Council of Foreign Affairs. I had uneasy feeling about his tentativeness and eagerness to please rather than to reflect on difficult questions. The same trait of tentativeness was clear from his miserable interview with a reporter with CNN, I think this tool place also in last year in Moscow.
He said that the fact that busy wealthy people ate cheap fast food was a reflection of their "adaptability", manifesting perhaps their greater reverence towards achievement than custom and luxury. Americans are the most mobile people in the world; they commute farther to work on average and move residence more frequently than any other people. They also come up with a disproportionately large number of world changing inventions which along with the population size of the country means that American inventions surround everyone and enable numerous facets of their daily lives. It has been true that more than any other country the US has consistently come up with the next big thing for the past 100 years. In the most pleasant of those circumstances, the US invents life saving medicines that save millions of lives (in effect US legislative corruption makes it so that the US heavily subsidizes the entire world pharmaceutical industry). In the most horrid of circumstances, the US invents nuclear weapons that threaten to destroy the species. The US itself is unbalanced however; it repeatably achieves remarkable things, its per capita GDP has long been virtually unmatched, but it is behind Western Europe when it comes to social justice. Anything so large as the US is a mixed blessing for the world because its inevitable virtues and faults are of such relative size that they bolster and disrupt the world intensely. New impressive powers are rising however, and the US is facing severe problems. It is relatively easy to say where things have been and to a lesser extent where they are, but the future will certainly be different. In what ways, one cannot yet know, but the relative dominance of the US seems destined to give way to a more diverse field of powers.
Tomorow will not be the same... President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin know that, we, polish people want to speak, and work together with russian people. Do not listen polish politics, they are taking too much. We are neighbor so we must think about future. I do not want live in country where "east" is better than "west". It is wrong philosophy. We must say "sorry" and we must improve ours dialog. Best regards from Poland!
The new russian president seems like a decent person. Time will tell. Sad about the polish president and his wife and staff. I hope the crash is fully investigated and reported. I don't trust the CFR and was sad to hear one of their boys is next in line. That's sad also.
American: "He said that the fact that busy wealthy people ate cheap fast food was a reflection of their "adaptability", manifesting perhaps their greater reverence towards achievement than custom and luxury. " Exactly. Medvedev didn't see New Yorkers in suits taking mid-day siesta breaks or downing shots of vodka. He saw them gulping down a fast food and going back to work. This impressed him.

May God bless President Medvedev. A true "NEW THINKER". Between him and my President Obama, there may be hope yet.
