Man dies of ammonia poisoning in Russia’s Far East

One person has died and at least four have been injured as a result of an ammonia leak in a seaport Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Russian Far East. The accident happened aboard a Japanese trawler.

The trawler had been detained for poaching in the area.

Officials say around two tons of ammonia were released into the atmosphere. The fire-fighters have stopped the spill and are eliminating the after-effects.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.
