Looking for the sun

Looking for the sun

The residents of a small village in the Italian Alps, which sees no sun for five months of the year, have installed a giant mirror to put a little light in their life.

Viganella is located in a steep valley, and every year the sun disappears from November to February.

That was until the government came up with the idea of installing a giant mirror on a nearby mountain to reflect sunlight.

Now a huge sheet of steel, operated by a computer, traces the sun’s movement and redirects its rays on to the village’s piazza.
