Russia is about to start exporting its gas to where pipelines cannot reach. The first liquefied natural gas plant has opened in the country's Far East.

Russia’s first liquefied natural gas plant comes on stream on Wednesday. A tanker with the first load of LNG produced on Sakhalin Island will set sail for Japan in March opening new market for Russian hydrocarbons.
On Wednesday Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko officially sent a request to EU experts to analyse the controversial gas contracts between Naftogaz and Gazprom signed on January 19.
Brussels and Moscow agree that measures are needed to prevent another gas crisis between Ukraine and Russia, says the Head of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

Russia has restored gas supplies to Belarus after the country paid its debts. However, the conflict is still not over with Minsk still threatening to cut transit of supplies to Europe over Gazprom’s debt.
