For the first time, Russia's renowned presidential cavalry escort of honor is performing outside the Kremlin. The show is taking place at an exhibition hall in one of Moscow parks.
You need to have a Slavic appearance to join? what about a Tatar or a Bashkir or if someone from the Caucasus (non Russian) want to join? what does the officer tell them? sorry you are not Russian you cant join ? i don't think this is something that unites the county.
Akropolis, please read the RT story again and you will find that the key phrase is "Cossacks from the 18th century". Cossacks of that period were exclusively Russians or Ukrainians and they were the protectors of the Russian frontiers and were instrumental in defeating the Turks, Tartars, and all other enemies of the Tsar. If Kremlin holds a masquerade ball, then the Tartars, Ostiaks, Samoeds, Iakuts, Yanomamos of the Amazon, and pygmies from the Ituri rainforests of African can dress up as cossacks.
Moscow is the THIRD Rome....The first Rome fell into HERSEY (filioque), the second Rome was destroyed by the Turks, and the Third Rome is all that is left!!
The article mentioned " Slavic in appearance ", so I'm guessing that having a Czech in the woodpile would be OK.
I do not think that unity of the country is an issue here. Historic accuracy is more important when re-creating a military unit from the past. Political correctness is a disease that afflicts the USA so bad that when a group of Americans trying to depict an antebellum plantation life of 1850, at an Historic site they are forced ( by the US Govt.) to hire black Americans as plantation owners and WHITES as the slaves... LOL!! Ridiculous! What's next, Czar Nicholas portrayed in a film by a black man from Africa and his wife a Mayan from Central America?
N.G.: "Political correctness is a disease that afflicts the USA" PC is a disease that the American people are too afraid to eradicate.

Moscow is one of my most favorite cities in the world. I was there during the celebration of Moscow 850th Anniversary - beautiful occasion. I especially enjoy being there during the summer "Moscow Days" of street carnivals and performers. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a must for all tourists. It's very impressive with its Eternal Flame and blocks of marble for each of the "Hero Cities" of the Great Patriotic War (WW II). I am glad to see the Russian Federation resurrect some of the splendor of Tsarist Russia. A cruise down the Moscow River to adore the beauty of the golden domed Christ the Saviour Cathedral is also a must for all visitors. Slava Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, and Yuri Luzhkov for making Moscow one of the most magnificent cities in the world.
