What the hell do they do? She did not violate any law, the arrest is illegal. She should appeal to Strassbourg.

There are always understandably powerful emotions in these cases, the basic foundations of parental closeness and seeing your child grow, are shaken to the core. Suddenly what was simple as a natural couple, becomes difficult as two families are created. If the parents cannot cope with this emotionally themselves, the situation can rapidly disintegrate into fighting and hatred. For various reasons, often the child becomes a mere chattel fought over, driven by any 'unfinished' emotional business, between the parties in the severed adult relationship. Depending on the emotional make up of either parent, this situation can be coped with, or rapidly get out of hand. In cases like this one, we see it rapidly gets out of hand, because the parents cannot keep the big picture in mind, the paramount welfare of the child, they lose the notion of what is best for the child. There is no doubt that coping with all this emotionally is extremely difficult, and is further compounded when international borders, superimpose their own concept of partisan bias on the situation. There is no doubt that the current international support umbrella in these cases doesn't exist. In terms of emotional counseling and meeting the emotional needs of the child and both parents. There remains a huge gap between what is emotionally required and the necessary legal certainty needed in a civilized society, which must exist. In the absence of a better civil mechanism to support international parents, coupled with parents who cannot cope emotionally, then parents had better acquaint themselves with the full implications of international relationships and law, before embarking on them in the first place. It is a matter of personal responsibility. Basically the law needs to be followed, so people better start wising up to what it means in terms of international relationships, especially knowing police arrangements are not usually binding in any jurisdiction.

Mrs. Rimma Salonen was today found guilty of kidnapping and deprivation of liberty in Finnish court. So, yes she did illegal actions by court! Now she has to pay 20 000 euros for the suffering for the child and service probationary prisonment for 1,5 years. If she does something illegal during this time, she will face emprisonment. I'm very pleased with this verdict and this is a serious sign for anyone trying to resolve parental problems by kidnapping.

If the father was so innocent then he should have followed the law to get his son back. It is clear that the Russian government needs to impose economic sanctions against Finland, the Finnish leader saying sorry is simply not good enough.

How long will women continue to throw themselves thoughlessly into the arms of men and vice versa?  This case, which is starting to look like a domestic circus with increasing political overtones, is simply a very public display of the kind of tragic destruction that occurs as a result of a poor choice of serious partner.  It is really sad, and I feel particularly sorry for the little boy in this case, being dragged around from pillar to post while his parents answer to different authorities for their actions.  What is with all of this?
