Russia and China only go along with this because they don't want to be targetted by US government. The Iranian government has already done more than enough to prove their nuclear program is peaceful and even sign deal with Brazil and Turkey which will remove Uranium out of Iran, something one would think should make US happy. It shows US is just after Iran like a rabid dog. Iran is now fully surrounded by US military instillations, poses absolutely zero threat to the lives of its neighbors. Though the press and consistent propaganda will do everything to make one believe otherwise. It is with great shame Russia has lost its Testosterone and is behaving like a shy school girl in the presence of US government and its senseless policies. Medvedev's choice to Run West will not bring any results as US has no desire for a strong Russia. It is a charade for the people which will bring no quality results. Middle East has very strong capabilities to totally distabilize Russia's underbelly and Russia is now portrayed as betraying them.

Obviously this sanction has got Washington more nervous than happy. Actually thier goal is to keep Russia and China out of Iran to replace them by themselves. The flaw in this strategy is that both China and Russia are fully aware and know they have to stop this.

It is sad to see Russia and China giving in to Anglo-American alliance of Terror. Brazil and Turkey have become the shining cities on the Hill. Anglo-Americans will not stop proxy wars against Russia despite Russian support against Iran, their ultimate goal is dismemberment and destruction of Russia so they can grab, steal and rob her natural resources.

I have said on many occasions before that the USA can no longer be seen as one entity. It would be much better to consider the government as being a multi headed hydra - the many agencies, departments, individuals (both in and out of office), and groups, that now form or lobby the 'government' are like the heads of the hydra - all competing for control of the body. If the US is viewed in this way it becomes easier to understand why so many US policies seem contradictory and / or self defeating. It has also become clear in recent years that a powerful pro-Israel group has become one of these 'heads' and is capable of steering the body in directions some of the other heads may prefer not to go. The USA has many interests in the middle east, and not all of them revolve around oil. If we look more closely at the US / Israel relationship we will begin to see why a weak Iran has become a US priority.

It is a very sad day for world. It became very clear that the absolute rulers of the world are Washington and Tel Aviv. Russia and China has become Washington and Tel Aviv new lackeys on the block. It surprising that nations that had the most lose economically Russia and China went along with this noncense.

We are all well aware that Western part of UNSC got duble standards..US use many times veto to protect their client states and Iran got sanctions only as suspect...Its not fear but there is no other way around if we really like stop spread of WMD.. I believe that Russia and China done right thing to support this weak and soft sanctions ..Russia and China somehow save Iran and give them more time to understand real point. Do not forget that spread of WMD is no.1 issue for all humanity! Things in the world are enough bad as they are and this trend have to be stoped somehow. I can not imagine future, where some lunatics walk around and have nukes in their "handbags"...this is not utopia-it is a real danger, if more and more states have them! If there is not NPT I believe that 100 plus states will have nuclear bombs till now! I can understand Iran point of view to and in many ways their complains are correct! Iran Great nation is peaceful true history unlike many others but they have to understand what is real issue here...Russia and China did not betray you! Those two honesly believe that further spread of nuclear weapons is a future suicide for all humanity! Sit and find a deal and go on with your lifes....Thank you

@ Alondra the Russian government seems to be acting under this assumption. Putin again announced yesterday that the sanctions would not prohibit Russia from completing deals it had already made with Iran. Some people here in USA think the sanctions mean the Bushehr nuke plant will not be completed. Wrong! It's going to be interesting to see how the radio talk shows will deal with that in August. Also, I think it means that Russia will finally ship those missiles it sold to Iran.

Artyom said "Russia and China only go along with this because they don't want to be targeted by US government" I do not think they fear the US in any way after all this is not the first sanction against Iran that the US proposed. For them to agree, something for sure was offered to them which they could not resist. It is already obvious taking in account that the military sells to Iran from Russia are not affected by the sanctions, nor is the nuclear plant. Secondly the Brazilian/Turkish proposed deal would have seen the uranium shipped to Turkey and no longer Russia as initially planned hence pulling capital away from them. In short, the only reason the sanctions were passed was cos Iran was no longer playing ball with the Russians. After all its a big boys game. I do however feel that the UN is truly the least democratic organisation in the world.Thank you for saving us from the Nazis but it has been 65years and time to let go of these veto powers.

I can't believe what I am reading half the time on these boards. People ranting about sane people of the world not wanting Iranian nuclear program. Iran has voiced its passion to see Israel wiped out and all it people killed. The last person to talk like this was Adolf Hitler and he did or attempted to do exactly what he said he would do. There is nothing in Iran's behavior to think it won't do the same. I hear people say weak Iran and mean old US is picking on Iran, hahahaha what a joke. Iran is provocation central for WW3 and it believes it rhetoric that it will represent their Messiah in the coming world apocalypse. I feel sorry for the Iranian people, they don't deserve the end that they will be getting due to their evil leadership leading them down the path to destruction. The whole world tension and conflict is caused by Islamic ambitions at worked conquest. The US and its allies would never be in the countries and places they are if it wasn't for constant Islamic provocation that would have been answered by war sooner than at any other period of history. But they have been answered by war even if it is limited in its scope. Right now we have to prevent any nation from harboring Islamic terrorist mass training facilities and prevent large scale funding of terrorists in order to keep it under some form of control until this evil time passes. I just pray that in its attempt at support of Iran, Russia doesn't start WW3.

My opinion is that Russia agreed to sanctions with a primary intention to eliminate danger for US/Israel military attack on Iran. However, even though many believe, including Churkin, that the danger has now been removed, it would probably be more correct to say that it is just a mere postponement for a much larger conflict that would take place between US and Russia. In this regard, the joint work on sanctions US - Russia can be seen as a sort of Molotov-Ribentrop agreement (so to say, a short time-out). The fact is that nothing is resolved by this joint work and the global situation is not to become more relaxed, but only a more tense one. US with its double standards has just revealed itself again as a partner that is far from being a reliable one for the rest of the world. I wonder what is the stage of the Bulava missile? Is it ready to be used? Besides, the US top ranking military personel should be aware that Russian crafts based on Hauneburg technology are surely not less effective than those that are in possession of US (if not the contrary).

As with everything else going wrong ... greed is the basis for the way countries act. 1. The United States and the financial crisis 2. Europe and the financial crisis. 3. Russia and Nuclear contracts with Iran. 4. Middle East and the Oil enterprise. What will be the action we take based on greed and our own dollar. Power, control, leadership, what???? My answer to all this is the Extinction of the Middle East. That means … The disastrous affect on the World stage as a whole and the Middle East in particular will be... 1. Population Disaster. 2. Economic Disaster. 3. Environmental Disaster. 4. Diplomatic Disaster. 5. Political Disaster. 6. Religious Disaster. I believe the true road to peace in the Middle East may involve the belief in the threat of the above by the leaders in the Middle East and that they finally see a disastrous end to Civilization in the Middle East. Much is at stake. I believe the solution will come when those that established Israel after World War II and those with a stake in the Middle East sit together to seek a peaceful solution. *********************gaptidbits@yahoo.com

It is humiliating to see Russia kowtow down to Obama "The Magnificent". Russia showed indecisiveness, absence of commitment and a tendency to grovel in front of US and Israel throughout this deal with Iran. It would have been better for Russia's prestige if she had never even entered into negotiations to sell the S-300 to Iran, than go through this multi-year charade. Whatever "goodies" Obama tangled in front of Medvedev and Putin, he sure made these two dance to the American tune. Duma member Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky is right when he said that canceling the S-300 deal with Iran was a mistake. Russia first showed her true weakness when she stood by and watched NATO bombard defenseless Serbia for 78 days killing over 4,000 Serb men, women and children. Now, Russia chose to break a contract to send a defensive system to Iran, and will silently watch as Iran falls victim to an American-Israeli attack. Abkazia and S. Ossetia should take note that if American "goodies" are in the right amount, Medvedev and Putin will abandon them as well. Saakashvili's hope of getting his territories back have risen sky high.

Russia abandoned Serbia, Russia abandoned Iran, and I promise you all that Russia WILL abandon Ankhazia and S. Ossetia as well when America tangles her "goodies" in front of Putin and Medvedev. Shameful of Russia to break her contract with Iran in this cowardly manner. If Russia had any self-respect and pride she should have cancelled the contract years ago instead of exposing her true intentions only in the shadows of the American sponsored sanctions. Russia never wanted to deliver the S-300 to Iran and the sanctions gave an her a cowardly way out. I am very disappointed in Putin and Medvedev. I hope they enjoy whatever "goodies" the Americans gave them.

Medvedev is going to Washington to be thanked by Obama for supporting sanctions against Iran and for breaking Russia's contract to deliver S-300 air defense system to Iran. Strange. I would have thought that Obama would go to Moscow to thank Medvedev, but I suppose Medvedev now knows who his master is. Russians should hang their heads in shame as the Brazilians and Turks take pride in the courage shown by their government as they stood up to American pressure. If France should cancel the Mistral deal, I suppose Medvedev might even go to Paris to thank Nicolas Sarkozy.

Paul Marion: "I just pray that in its attempt at support of Iran, Russia doesn't start WW3." Rest easy - there will be no WW 3. Please direct your prayers towards America. If there is any country in the world who would plunge Middle East into a major war, or unleash nuclear weapons on human beings again, it is America. America fell into an ever expanding sinkhole by her unquestioned and lavish support of Israel. The current crisis in the ME can be directly traced back to the 1967 Israel attack against the Arabs. Had America not armed and encouraged Israel in 1967, there might be peace today between the Israelis and Arabs.

Now it has become quite obvious that Russia and China are just paper tigers, with no real teeth (or guts) at all. What D. Medvedev said a while ago that Russia is committed to a multipolar world is just smoke and mirrors... There's really just one master on this world and the march towards the New World Order is unstoppable... unless the Planetary Game will come to a sudden stop... for reasons originating outside the Game... in other planes of creation... I for one am sick and tired of this controll game... looking forward to the end of it all... Leaders the world over are sick people holding on to their chair just because they are sick with greed, lust for power and controll but, in turn, obedient to their Overlords... How sad to see so much unjustice in this world...
