“Better to cooperate with Iran than struggle to stop it”

Iran will probably go nuclear eventually, so the US and other countries would do better to focus on managing it as a nuclear power rather than try to prevent the inevitable, said Ivan Eland of the Independent Institute.

I agree with the German journalist. They shouldn't bow to the West. They fought hard and had to live with suppressed freedoms to stop US from trying to infiltrate their nation over the years. The time from the Islamic revolution to present, the US has been trying to gain their influence back. As for Russia, they need to abide by their contracts. As they say, the s-300 is a defensive weapon and they signed a contract to supply Iran. They are baulking at the behest of USA and Israel. Not good for Russia's international image. Breaking contracts looks bad. Kissing up to empires and countries that wage endless wars also looks bad. They want Iran and the rhetoric is similar to that before Iraq. Last thing Russia needs is a fire lit beneath its belly and to have its anger directed at Russia.

I truely hope that Iran is capable of defending itself because one way or the other the warmongers will have their way. They may have to wait until Obama is voted out in a few years time, or they may provoke something (false flag attack perhaps) much sooner. Iran is surounded by the US and the US is slowly tightning a noose round the neck of Iran through sanctions and limiting its access to resources. Should they try to finally tighten the noose by imposing a navel blockade and resticting air and land travel accross US controlled areas they may well push Iran into a confrontation. Fortunately the global recession has limited the ability of the US to wage war on a large scale - it can only just pay for its global empire, Iraq and Afghanistan - any more and it would be financially cripped. Unfortunately however they could still do severe damage to Iran simply by using existing missile assets in the region. Dangerous times ahead...........

It is ludicrous to support Iran against western powers when its own citezens do not have the freedom and civil rights which people in the west enjoy. The Iranian regime is flawed and its religious leaders are hypocrites for this reason Israel has every right to fear an attack from Iran's government, which has always been in favour of removing Israel from the face of the earth. It has openly for several years promised that it would carry this act out. The Iranian regime may have legitimate cause to promote atomic power for its country's use but its advancement in the hands of a war mongering legislative currently ruling Iran must be a real cause for concern.

Elsaesser, a well known and distiguished journalist, is right. The only comment to be added is his interpretation of Obama's speech during his election campaign. In so far it wasn't an official speech. When fighting for voters you are always compromising and I wouldn't give to much attention what he said in front of AIPAC. He wanted to please his audience well knowing the fact that no one can be elected president in the USA without support of influential Jewish groups. However he still holds up a distanced position as far as Israel's claims for military intervention and military solution of Iran's nucear program is concerned. The only question is how long he will stand the pressure and how long he can endure the demands of Israel's extremist politicians? I think it fits very well the Russian Foreign Policy when they are intermediating in that conflict. I hope the worst can be avoided.
