Bushehr nuclear saga enters final chapter

Russia has started loading fuel into the reactor at Iran’s first nuclear power plant – a key step in making the Bushehr station operational. But what is the project about? Purely business, or an ace in a political hand?

Thank you Mr Putin for this! Does this new interesting development mean that the empire and its coalition of the willing may think twice before bombing Iran now because to do so will most certainly mean killing thousands of Russian engineers and experts? Russia is the only credible barrier between the total domination of the world by the U.S corporate imperialists and the hope for peace in the world. Russians must never forget their historic role to humanity. I think this tacit understanding is why so many of us care about Russia so much.

There seems to be a some strange and suspicious Russian - Israeli kabuki theater taking place here: 1. Russia is encouraging Iran to expend billions in resources and funds to build this nuclear power plant; 2. Russia refuses to sell Iran the S-300 anti-missile system to protect the plant; 3. Israel destroys the defenseless plant; 4. Israel thanks Russia; and, 5. refurbishment the decaying Russian military. This sure sounds like a good old Texas five-step - Corona anyone?

This is good for Russia and good for Iran. It is refreshing to see a sensible and mature approach being taken by Russia on this issue. There has been too much scare mongering in the western media about this issue that I was begining to think everyone was starting to belive the diss-information, miss-information, and downright lies. I am yet to see any sensible comments come from the US administration (or Isreal) about this but I am pleased to see Russia are taking a sensible approach towards an issue that has been turned and manipulated in the west beyond recognition. In the west (and Israel) less informed people could almost be forgiven for thinking that there is no difference between an Iranian nuclear electrical program and an Iranian nuclear weapons program. The sooner this plant is up and running and producing electricity the better. Maybe then the US and Israeli media will stop reporting the prospect of 'pre-emptive' military action in order to 'save the world' and find something else to 'report' on.

Jim: "This is good for Russia and good for Iran. It is refreshing to see a sensible and mature approach being taken by Russia on this issue." A mature approach for Russia would also have been to sell the Iran the S-300 system to defend this reactor. That Russia has broken a signed contract for delivery of the S-300 system, makes the construction of the entire nuclear power plant some what suspicious to me. This power plant is a sitting duck for an Israeli attack - just as Israel and Russia planned it to be. Watch for Russian technicians to pull out of Iran in a few weeks, and the "poofh" you hear is the dust cloud arising from this plant when the powerful American supplied bunker busting bombs tear the guts out of this duck. This nuclear plant will be target practice for the Israeli Air Force.

Russia wants to get paid...pure and simple. There is no historic role involved. Since the fuel rods will be out of Iranian hands and under the management of Russia, this power plant should cause no problem. But, I don't know if everyone will agree with that. If they don't they have about one week to do something about it. After that, it is a done deal.

A great step for Iran, if the Israelis don't take it out first. Just remember what Israel did to the Iraqi nuclear reactor. Ofcourse, if Iran did launch a nuclear strike on Israel, the Israelis probably have more weapons. Also consider what the Islamic world would think if their mosque in Jerusalem ( a.k.a Al-Quds ) was nuked. The Palestinians would also be killed in such a strike. THINK TWICE IRAN!

Someone is talking about the western diss-information, miss-information and downright lies? You know where things like "freedom of press" come from? You know what the Russian and Iranian governments do with some sensitive information?

GaryMax You most certainly read RT. Still, you do have some difficulties in coming to terms with the fact that the Russians do have historic role and a duty to humanity. I think this is a fact and nobody can deny it. As for your insistence that the Russian want to be “paid” and that this move has nothing to do with historic role, I say, that the Russians are indeed entitle to be paid in full for a service rendered.

PR101, have you even walked through Moscow recently? It is already taken by US corporate imperialists. Now there is going to be every fast food joint that's found in US will be here too. Sickening... Don't think many of the Russia politicians have any other interest than money. That's not the heart of Russia.

Just a few weeks ago, world intelligence services mentioned that Israel has sent three of her German built submarines to the Strait of Hormuz - most likely to be refurbished by the US carrier flotilla already in the area. These submarines carry nuclear warhead cruise missiles which will turn the Iranian nuclear power plant to cement powder. I am convinced that Israel and the US are positioning their forces for a strike against Iranian nuclear installations. I suspect there is an underlining sinister motive for this Israeli strike that is never mentions. Such a strike will unleash Arab turmoil which Israel will use as a pretext to "cleanse" the land of Israel of all Arabs once and for all.

i agree with PR101, russia has a historic role to play, it is the balance in the world, it is the one country that can and will bring true peace, to stand against greed and destruction that is today the west and the multicorporations, .. never before has russia been able to be like britain, france, germany, .. craving for money and material things, everytime russia tried it got almost destroyed, .. the destiny of russia is spiritual development of not only russia but the world, .. the compassion that is real not like usa going to save the world aka iraq-killed million civilions already, or afghanistan killing 100 civilians per day... no thanks, nobody wants to be rescued like that!! So, russia will unwilingly accept her role, .. as will the people, ..

Absolutely, I agree. But it is purely business and Russia needs the money. Let's not try make it into something it isn't, a beneficent act on Russia's part.

TO: VOVA2012 I did thank Mr. Putin because I do not trust the other guy. Mr. Medevdev’s comments on Iran are hard to distinguish from those of Obama and Hilary Clinton. Thus I do not think he deserves any gratitude from those of us who look to Russia to keep the line against the aggressive expansion of the U.S corporate imperialists. To: Artyom Yes, I have been to Moscow and have seen the effects of fast joints in the heart of Russia’s capital. However, I still have some hope because Russia is too big for the corporate imperialists to conquer so easily. The Russian language and Orthodoxy faith of the majority of Russians- and also if assisted in the correct way, the Muslim faith- and by instilling sense of tradition and patriotism can be power forces to counter the corporate imperialist toxic effects on Russian culture ans society. These forces can also country equally toxic effects of they greedy rich classes inside Russia.

I fear that in the next week some erratic cruise missile (with conventional warhead) coming from nowhere will hit the plant, delaying its start of a couple of years or more. Of course, no country will admit that it launched it. I sincerely hope it is only a fear...
