In eastern India, crop failure due to a severe two-year drought is pushing one village to take extreme measures. The inhabitants are threatening to commit mass suicide.

Looks like only the mass suicide threat could jolt the authority into some kind of action, so as to avoid an imminent disgraceful crisis. Is that not ridiculous? (vzc43)

'Jolted the authorities into action' is what you say???? But the authorities have done nothing and refused to even meet your reporter. What action were they jolted into?
