Russian media tycoon to call Egyptian partner into Independent deal

Aleksandr Lebedev, owner of the London Evening Standard, is believed to be talking to his business partner Samih Sawiris about the negotiated takeover of the Independent newspaper titles, according to a Guardian report.

I don't see a problem with a Russian buying a few British newspapers - we have an Australian who owns 20% of the UK national press and almost 100% of satellite TV broadcasting.

Well this is a strange story...you seem to have the scoop, so I wonder what your inside information is? Not sure the Brits particularly worry if a Russian buys another newspaper...any foreigner raises a few eyebrows, but mainly in Government circles rather than on the High St. Looking forward to seeing any changes....
