On Monday the political leader of Hamas claimed both the US and Israel are holding back reconciliation in Palestine. Khaled Mashaal came to Moscow for talks on how to unite Palestinians and resume talks with Israel.
We keep hearing talk and read about peace, peace, peace when there is no peace. Perhaps the word peace should be crossed out everywhere it is written and the word WAR substituted instead. This would probably more correctly describe current world reality.
I agree with you Jonas. Unfortunately we have to wait for the US to collapse in order to see a viable, independent Palestinian state. And Hamas is very realistic, I find Fatah's approach and view rather naive.
Is the president of the United States cancelling a meeting with the Dalai Lami because it displeases Communist China? The Dalai Lama could offer some good advice in the area of peace in the Middle East and elsewhere. Russia would also be wise to invite the Dalai Lama to Russia for a presidential visit and to receive his message. Every area should be explored to help restrain the world from further expansion of wars. Free Tibet from their Communist masters by giving total support to the Dalai Lama worldwide. Down with Communist dictatorships.

A step forward but it is Israel who hold all the cards. However Israel can best be negotiated with when it is considered as being part of the USA, or at least an outpost of the USA. Therefore the only country which really matters to Israel is the US. At the moment this is not happening. Without strong political will within the US administration to make change happen, nothing will change between Israel and the Palistininans in the short / medium term. Israel have protected their interests in US politics by their financial support to preffered political candidates, financial support to 'lobby' groups, and the control of / influence of large media and news corporations. Until the US talk to Hamas and 'sanction' Israel into following UN madates and international law, there will be just more of the same - no progress.
