While Ukraine claims the famine of the 1930s was actually a soviet genocide committed by the Kremlin, the authors of a new book by Russian historians reveal documents that show Moscow tried to help starving Ukrainians.
Remember, the New York Times' Moscow bureau chief from 1922 through 1936, Walter Duranty, purposefully helped cover up the Soviet role in the Ukranian famine. Duranty's reporting has fallen into disrepute primarily because of his reports denying the famine in Ukraine.
