Former Kazakh Ambassador released on bail

The former Kazakh Ambassador to Austria, Rakhat Aliyev, who was detained in Vienna, has been released on 1 MLN euros bail. Kazakh President dismissed Mr Aliyev as Ambassador and asked for his extradition earlier this week.

Rakhat Aliyev is wanted in his home country for alleged involvement in the abduction of two executives of Nurbank – one of Kazakhstan's leading banks which he controls.

Mr Aliyev denies all the charges and says he is suffering for his presidential ambitions.
