This is a terrible practice but the media including RT are really behind the times when it comes to the globalization of FGM. In reality, whereas in the Third World, including large part of non Muslim Africa and Asia, this heinous practice is subjected to little girls, there is a high-end thriving female genital mutilation in the West. FGM has been rebranded to a "Vaginal Rejuvenation” in the U.S and EU countries! However, unlike its poor cousin, the "Vaginal Rejuvenation" is a high priced high-end FGM based on Playboy model of a dream of giving middle aged women tiny tight vaginas based on Playboy fantasies. But of course, western feminists and cultural imperialists will retort to agency and autonomy of western women to mutilate their bodies-something these little Muslim girls do lack. But this is a ruse. In fact, FGM is declining in the Muslim and the Third world but is a fast expanding expensive high-end practice in the West. I urge RT producers to look at some of the emergent high-end plastic surgery clinics in Moscow serving the wives and girl friends of the oligarchs. I am certain “Vaginal Rejuvenation” will be in the menu options of bodily mutilations and transformations!

Listening to the report, I do not think that criminalisation of FGM is the solution to this cultural practice, because it would seem that for the most part, families that do perform this procedure believe that it is for the betterment, however misguided, of their children. I think prosecution would only serve to drive the procedure underground, thereby endangering more girls. Where can one find out what the UK government is doing to amend the FGM laws and educate people who practice it?

The British have always been tolerant of religious freedom at others' expense, let's see how they tolerate the affairs of their own minorities. Will they resort to their long checkered history of double standards for those who are politically incorrect?
