A debate on whether the US Food and Drug Administration should approve the first genetically engineered animal for human consumption, a fast-growing salmon, in under way.
I have also read articles concerning this GM fish, whereby a university study showed that the modified version of the salmon, once in the wild, would force the natural salmon to go extinct in 40 generations. Once pandora's box is opened, it is impossible to close. Why are we (humans) even messing with DNA? To produce more food faster and cheaper? If I came up wth a modified North American black bear that looked like a panda, would anyone care if I released it into China knowing the traditional panda would go extinct right away? People need to wake up and start speaking out against these groups!
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) have been appearing on Earth EVER SINCE LIFE BEGAN. Unless you're a Creationist and have No belief in any of evolutions mysteries you need look no further than Mutation, Speciation, Animal Husbandry, Hybrid Crops, backcrossing etc to understand that this has been going on for quite some time. To all you self appointed ministers of what's good for humanity...the real; answer is that Humanity is no good for Humanity. You want the world, but refuse to step along with progress. Homo sapiens needs to learn to co-adapt to the changes we make as the major force of change on this planet. Look at the Fossil Record. When things Stay the Same they go Extinct. The Red Queen Hypothesis all over again. Wake up and get with the program. We are Outstripping our Carrying Capacity at an alarming rate. To deny sapiens the means to cope with this situation is to lay down and die! (Get Real !! )

"He argued that the FDA works to support large corporations and is not interested in personal and environmental health". Aint it the truth, the US government needs to change back to working for the people instead of the banks and corporations. But a simple way to solve this would be to lable weather a product is a gmo or not and let the consumer decide. I believe that in Europe they are labeled, I also believe that gmo´s are not allowed in Russia. I have read a bit about gmo´s and they actually could be an enviromental hazard, this needs to be looked at very vary seriously, but then again, who be it to let enviromental health stand in the way of making money!
