As many companies in Russia have resorted to job cuts over the past twelve months to stay afloat, foreign workers were hit hard. More than two thirds of expats who came to Russia to work have lost their jobs.

This is a natural correction, a re-balancing of the skills matrix. When finance is on the way down and you have reseves and want innovation, it may be a good idea to attract expats with a more scientific entrepreneurial background. These could add value for Russia, because finace is tighter now where some of these are currently located. Expats can be a good thing, if they match our nations need. They can help make a culture of innovation flourish.
