That's just the problem with these types of sites: they enable people of the same views to unite. Normally this is not a problem, and in some cases it's beneficial. And then, there are cases like this. If each person is allowed their private opinion, it is one thing; but once they group together, they can easily develop political clout. An extremist alone is not much of a threat. It's when they develop a social network and band together that you get radical political parties, cults, racist groups, and the like. When it comes down to it, the whole point in anyone posting ideas such as these on the internet is to gather others sharing the same opinion to them.

This will become a non-issue if down's syndrome pre-birth genetic screening becomes more accurate and more widely available/affordable. As long as abortion remains legal. How about genetically testing the parents beforehand so as not to create a down's syndrome baby in the first place? Then down's syndrome abortions itself would not be a issue.

First, let me say, I'm totally against this kind of nonsense. But, this is merely the logical conclusion to a purely secular worldview that has been espoused for the last century so deeply. If we claim to be a purely secular society, purely scientific and Darwinian in nature, then we should be doing everything possible to ensure the strength and health of the human race. We should be supporting the idea of "the survival of the fittest." If we take this to its logical conclusion, then not only should children with down syndrome be euthanized, but people with all sorts of genetic predispositions also. One might ask why we're allowing people with certain genetic predispositions to procreate. Why do we bother to treat people who get cancer? Why not let them all die off.Why don't we euthanize people who become disabled, or those who suffer heart attacks? Why don't we euthanize the less intelligent? Imagine the evolutionary plains our species could reach if all those with IQs less than 120 were eliminated. Should we be surprised that people would have this kind of attitude? For over 100 years now we've been taught that humanity is nothing special, nothing more than a grand cosmic accident that may or may not have happened. We've been taught that we have no intrinsic value as human beings. We're simply cogs in the evolutionary process. As a result we've become a human race of death. If someone makes us uncomfortable, whether inside or outside of the womb, then kill him. This will allow us to more freely live out the rest of our miserable pathetic existence for the span of a few decades on this planet until we ourselves die. Views like the one in the article don't appear in a vacuum. This is the symptom of a greater problem.

re: anonymous- I feel sick about this post. Only evil people would think and act like this. These children, as all children, are so beautiful. Made in God's image. Christians UNITE!!

anonymous - you are no better than the producers of this highly disturbing webpage.. I have a son with Down Syndrome and he is a wonderful, intelligent and outgoing person. They learn at a slower pace, so that means you should abort them? Are you kidding me? Your views disturb me. You disgust me and you have obviously never knows someone with Down Syndrome.

No, you have to commit some horrid crime then agree to babysit it for a few hours because you've seen the light of humanity. Or use it for various political issues and as a cheap fundraising tool. Being loud like this will only harm the issue of getting rid of us because it makes you look like the bad guys. It's all about how you sell the matter. You aren't killing them. You are transferring them to a better place and evolving humanity, though I dare say that genetic screening and alterations in the future is a lot easier than breeding the human animal. Many have tried for 1000s of years only to fail. To dear Christians, if God loves the creature so much, He can have it. Why don't you do what you do best and call it Jewish or something? Some of us are going to stick around and be annoying just because we can.

Then I guess everyone who is terminally ill, or disabled is not worthy, either. I dont get it. You yourself, as anyone else, can become disabled at any time in your life. There are much, much worse things to have than down syndrome. What about alzheimers patients. You and I nor anyone else are exempted from having a disability.I once worked as a health worker aid and this woman I sat with had a frontal brain injury that was a visible dent on her forehead. Before that, she was a so called perfect person. Her mistake was driving on a sheet of ice and crashing headfirst into a truck. That could be anyone. Nothing is guaranteed. In my opinion people with down snydrome(including my son) have a much better understanding of the meaning of life than people like you. Once when my son was in a dr's office he went up and hugged a lady with no legs. Things like that speak volumes, thats what life is really about. And you want everyone to abort these children, who express unconditional love so freely.more than anyone else. You make me sick.

are you seriously kidding me!! you people who even thought for one second that you should abort a child with down syndrome make me absolutuly sick. honestly, say your child was still in womb and you found out that he or she had down syndrome, would you seriously give them up.. you would kill your own flesh and blood.. you must be heartless.. is it even any of your buiseness to say what is right and what is wrong for a parent to do. hey, are you the one putting the many hours of extra help into that child. have you ever even stopped to ask that child what their name is or how old they are? i doubt it. you probably made false acuisations about that child and didnt give a damn. thats so heartless you dont even see it. My brother has down syndrome. It is a genetic disease. Its very horrible but we manage to make it work. He is our little angle and we all love him so much. He is the inspiration and the fulcrum point of so many peoples lives. Some people that do not understand this disease seem to think that these type of children aren’t able to do the same things a healthy person can. However, the truth is, children and adults with down syndrome can do almost anything they set their minds to very well, even better than us. You see, the point of this is to inform those people who seem to know anything and everything about down syndrome, the truth. Truth fact number one. Technically the definition of down syndrome is that it is genetic disorder: a genetic disorder characterized by a broad skull, blunt facial features, short stature, and learning difficulties. It is caused by the presence of an extra copy of a the 21st chromosome. So why should these boys and girls be judged by having one single extra little chromosome. Its only a little more for their parents to love and that’s all they can really give their child. It’s the best gift a parent can give. Love, and patients. im only 15, anyone who thinks of these kids as different your wrong.

Just fyi - Down Syndrome is not a 'disease', and people with it do not 'suffer' - unless they're placed in mental institutions, as is common practice in Russia. You'd suffer too if you spent you're whole life being told you were inadeaquate, and were never given an education. dee - You can't genetically test parents to prevent Down Syndrome - since everyone has some chance of conceiving such a child.
