88 dead in Thai plane crash

88 people have been confirmed dead and another 42 injured after a Thai passenger jet crashed while attempting to land in heavy rain. No Russians are thought to be among the victims.
The Deputy Governor of southern Thailand's Phuket resort says 90% of those on board may be dead. Nearly half of the passengers are said to be foreign tourists.
According to the Russian consul in Bangkok, there were no Russians among them.
The airliner which was carrying 130 passengers from Bangkok slid off the runway and caught fire. Part of the plane dug into the ground while its tail remained stuck on the runway.
The dead and injured have been taken to local hospitals.
