Three people, including two policemen, have been killed after a suicide bomb attack at a police checkpoint in the Southern Russian Republic of Dagestan. Seventeen people are in hospital, reports news agency Interfax.

The republic's Interior Ministry said the attacker detonated the device when officers stopped his car to check documents.

The car was hijacked a week ago. That has been established as the engine of the car had its own number.

10 vehicles were damaged in the explosion. According to preliminary data, the explosion had the power of 50 to 80 kilograms of TNT.
