November 1989, Prague's Velvet Revolution

20 years ago, hundreds of thousands of Czechs waved flags in Prague in a cry for independence. Today some question whether they really achieved that goal.

Hello! I am a regular poster here, you might know I am from Slovakia, the eastern worse developed part of the former Czechoslovakia. There are some stereotypes that didnt change even after 20 years. When Czechoslovakia is mentioned, shorter term to describe its citizen is Czech. In Czech sources especially, what was Czechoslovak is Czech. What was made only by Slovak part, they mention it as Czechoslovak. They were always minimizing everything we did, called it their own. I worked in Czech rep. for some shorter period of time. Moravians are more or less ok. Czechs...those from Prague were and are liked as Moscovites are liked accross Russia it seems. Czechs Czechs...what did they achieve? Look at their political stability. RT took these stereotypes. I agree with NATO, EU limiting our sovereignity, ......ideologically for peace freedom...of who? Bankers?

I personally think that USSR, for very long time, was providing economical and political security and stabilty to other socialist countries: Czechs, Polish ect. Now, as they all achived their desired independance - they have to themselves to build their own security and economical stability. Russia now itself facing a lot of eco-nomical and political challenges like every other country in the world - I belive that as a child who left home to grow and evolve - so this countries has to work hard to be able to survive and compite in the world stage.
