Russia could about to get a slice of carmaker Opel if the German government approves a bid from the Canadian Magna corporation.

The well-known German automobile brand is on sale. Several bidders from Europe and North America are in the running, but an alliance which includes Russia’s GAZ appears the most likely winner.
Negotiations between GM and bidders for its Opel operations in Europe stalled during late Wednesday night discussions hosted by the German Chancellor, as workers have back the Magna-Sberbank bid.
Talks on the sale of Opel stalled after General Motors demanded additional money. GM's last-minute price hike came after the sole American bidder withdrew, leaving the contest to Fiat and the Magna-Sberbank alliance.
