Catalonia’s unofficial polls have shown the Spanish region is strongly in favor of separation. But as calls for a referendum on independence continue, the issue seems far more complicated.

Only 21% of the population voted in the unofficial polls organized this weekend in 80 municipalities of Catalunya. Among this 21%, 92.33% voted yes for independence. Of course it doesn't mean that 92,33 of Catalans are for independence, it only means that only the real supporters of independence went to vote, it is, 1/5 of the Catalans: What a surprise: 1 out of 5, just as the official surveys suggest! In Catalonia the Spanish feeling is very low, that’s true, but the real supporters of independence are also not very much, The truth is that common people is very apathetic about all this stuff and they just want to live their life in peace, far away from the stink of the political atmosphere in Catalunya.

Well is seems that Catalonia is a peaceful nation from within Spain and if they continue to live with peace I will fully support their plight for Independence from Spain, and yes it does seem to have some complicated old constitutions in Spain but I hope that Catalonia does continue to live in peace then they might have a good case for Independence. It's just like Spain's and France's Basque Country the only way they are ever going to have and that is the separatist movement of ETA in Spain. But thankfully Catalonia does not have such separatist groups in this medium sized Enclave of Spain. This is exactly what the Russia did for the newly Recognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are peaceful and honorable this is the reason why I believe that what has happend in these republics should also happen to Catalonia, a quest for independence does not divide it calms and settles territorial, border and political disputes and does have good rewards in the future.

I'm from Madrid,so suspicious of being unfair on this topic. However, as it's said on the report, less than 20% catalonian population is for independence. There is much more stuff to say about this (historical, political, taxes, industrial development, demography, even linguistics), but I won't bore you. I'm glad of seing RT interested on the spanish domestic issues but what I'd like to find on RT is a deeper report made from abroad of Spain, not only a self-contradictory report. Maybe I'm naive but for that I already had CNN. I hope you take this small reflection as it is, a demand from a client. As one's looking for a different view on different issues and countrys. So I won't get upset if you don't feel like making it public. Thank you

Only one main party, ERC, calls for Independence...and they just got 14% of the votes during the last Elections in Catalonia. Other Nationalist parties, like CiU, are defend the Autonomous system even if with the transfer of more competences and resources to the Autonomous Community.

In the future as internal Russian republics start to become prosperous and economically more independent from the central government you would start to hear more and more calls for independence for this regions were ethnic Russians make a tiny percentage of there population, be careful how you push the independence card especially in friendly countries like Spain because it may come back to hurt Russia.

There was another very poor turnout in Catalonia's plight for independance and it looks like the real people of catalonia don't really want it anyway. It seems that the only people bothered to go to the voting poll stations are the radicals who in my opinion are the worst type of Catalans.Catalonia has never ever been independant and it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.

All that people saying that independetist are an insignificant thing in Catalunya, i remite them to the strike on July 10th, in Barcelona, in that strike you not heard calls to more autonomy, you heard calls for independence, i personally want the independence of catalonia, spain is fucking us for 400 years, now its enough and independetism in catalonia is now in 56%, of course, not all in the strike were shouting for independence, but the most were making, and of course , not all independentists and not all the people who loves catalonia but not wants to separate was present, its stastically impossible that all catalonia was in barcelona, but dudes, we were 1.500.000 and most shouthing and making calls for independence. Visca Catalunya lliure¡¡¡ PS: Impera, are you russian?

Most Catalan people know that it is just an idea that would benefit a few people all of them working for the goverment or close to it, while Catalan business owners, and everybody who is working in a private company want Catalonia to remain Spanish.
It is a pity that some Politicians spend their time (and our money) going around the world just trying to convince people that Catalonia wants to become independent... But they will keep doing that, as long as it gives them money. The real problem is that people in Spain (including Catalonia) are more worried about TV shows, football than in important National Matters like our National Crisis, goverment corruption, and a lot of problems that makes it impossible to improve things in our country.
CATALONIA MUST WORK TOGETHER WITH THE REST OF SPAIN TO SOLVE OUR RECESSION PROBLEMS.
