The dirty secret behind Russian bell-making

The trick to making a perfect bell is in the ingredients, such as clay, horse manure and cow hair. However, one has to know the proportions, which bell-makers will not disclose to a stranger at any cost.
Andrey Tarkovsky made his masterpiece “Andrey Rublyov”, which fits to this article. The story is (as I recollect from the movie made 1965): Young boy lost the father who happened to die just before casting the huge bell in medieval Russia. The father was the only person in Russia able to lead casting of bells. As it goes about “molder and caster” mystery – the coworkers asked the boy to take over the process of removing the mold from the bell – the tricky moment responsible for future quality of the bell. The boy only witnessed his father works before, but did not receive any particular education from him. Being compelled to get in charge for this very situation he made a sudden decision and … the bell was perfectly born. Andrey Rublyov, the famous icon painter was the observer of the situation who asked the boy for the timing of inspiration: - How did you know when is the moment for removal of the mold?
