With all the so-called dictators and crises in that part of the FORMER Soviet Union nations, Azerbaijan is a very stable oasis. Azerbaijan has many natural resources, such as cotton, grain and wheat and gas-oil.I would place my confidence in such a nation, and Russia should too.

Norman Hill I do think that the Russians know Azerbaijan’s culture, geography and natural resources. After all, Azerbaijan used be a part of the Soviet Union! Also, these two nations have deep historical bonds as millions of Russians and Azeris and other Soviet people died in WWII defending the oil field of Baku from the Hitler Army. I am delighted to see a closer cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia. . As for NABUCCO, it was doomed before this deal between Azerbaijan and Russia.

I hate to say it... But as long as Karabakh is mostly inhabited by Armenians, the Azeris have no hope of getting it back peacefully. Those people will never vote for an Azeri president, and an absence of democracy will only result in 'terrorist attacks' against Azeri soldiers. Perhaps they should just cut their losses and move on
