My Russian friends, ask yourself why this is so. These children should not be suffering in a country with the huge natural resources of Russia. Please go to the Google Earth website. Rotate the globe to show Russia, which hardly fits. Yes, I'm jealous. Look at the Arctic Ocean. Notice the vast, shallow water, continental shelf which is nearly the size of the entire USA. It all belongs to Russia. Submarines don't need to plant any flags for tv cameras to scare Canada or Sarah Palin in Alaska. (She is already keeping an eye on you guys from her yard.) Notice those huge rivers that flow into the Arctic Ocean. Those rivers have been depositing organic rich sediment onto that continental shelf for a long, long time. If you would explore that shelf, you would probably find many trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas up there. Even if you have to access the latest technology through private foreign oil firms, you can still keep the vast majority of the money, like OPEC countries do. As soon as the world economy starts to grow again, the price of oil will go right back up over $90 a barrel. Any climate change treaty will raise the demand for natural gas, because it is a clean fuel. If you are burning off gas when you produce oil, you are throwing away a lot of future income. I would build more pipelines. China will need a lot of gas, because they will run short of coal to generate electricity sooner than people think. India is a long way off, but you can ship liquid natural gas a long way on a ship, just like oil. Wait long enough, and you'll die poor, instead of rich, of old age. Get busy and Russia will have more than enough money to provide the best medical care in the world for all its people. It doesn't matter to me, because we have a lot of gas here in the USA. The US oil companies discovered a way to get it from shale deposits, which are very abundant, both here, and in Canada. Now, I am off to my Chinese microwave oven for some spaghetti and meat balls.
