During WWII, the US and UK supplied the Soviet Union with millions of tonnes of vital supplies. The lifeline stretched through the Arctic region – the harshest sailing route.

It is very gratifying to see the Russia acknowledging the Murmansk convoys. However, your tributes ring hollow. My uncle, Yeoman of Signals Patrick Parker, RN, served on these convoys. He related to me how, upon arrival in Murmansk, and after enduring the horrors so vividly described by Albert Wilson, his ship was surrounded by armed guards, and no Royal Navy sailor was allowed ashore. So much for Soviet gratitude! If Russia truly wishes to thank the people who risked their lives to help Russia defeat the Nazi,s you should apologise the the Royal Navy for this.
