There was a time when women and men both in the West (Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, Kim Philby) and Russians and Soviets actually spied for the Soviet Union and for Russia. But what did this pin up girl did for Russia, if as we are told, Russia and the U.S are now friends and the U.S corporation are supervising the Russians how to “modernize” their technology and the economy and this girl seem to have neither the intellectual capacity nor the technical know-how to be near topic state or technical secrete in the U.S? And if media reports are correct that Ms Chapman has received the highest state honour in Russia—then Russian state honour is a matter of popularity not one based on merit…… I think there is something sad and spectacle about the current Russian media reports about this girl..

Sex sells not only in the decadent West, but also in Russia. Create a sensation, and the masses will fall all over themselves to buy, buy, and buy into the sensation. This is called "capitalism" and "free market" economy. Welcome aboard.

PR101: "I think there is something sad and spectacle about the current Russian media reports about this girl.." Some old commie once said that religion is the opium of the people. He was wrong, because in the capitalist world, "hype" is the opium of the people. Whoever controls the media hype, controls the mind of the masses. Without hype, this Chapman "lady" is a nobody - just an average Russian dura sitting on the Moscow metro bench. With good old capitalist 'hype", she is transformed to a "hot babe". Welcome to capitalism that exploits females to enrich those who control hype.

Kihnu I am neither "commie" nor anti spectacle use of sex—in Russia though sexualisation of women come at the expense of the sexual health and sexual dignity the Russian womanhood and Russan manhood as well. New this horrific trend seems to be changing. Now it seems that Russian women are embracing moral achievement and moral duty including that of motherhood and service to the community over sexual self commodification we associate with Russian women in 1990s. I do not see any important about Anne Champan. She is a pin up? I heard she has problem using computers! So much for her spying skills skills. She reminds me of one of those Barbie doll ads when the doll complains that she "hates" math! I do wish Anne Champan all the luck in the world…! We commie we like the girls with brains--see the Soviet film Tomorrow Was the War! The girls in this film are our girls, not Anne Chapman.

PR101: "We commie we like the girls with brains-" I'll be damned. I always thought you old commies were in love with your tractors. Sure seemed that way to me from the Stalin-era films. I always suspected that the USSR had a subtle reason for arresting and shipping virile young Estonian men to Russia during the post-war Stalinist Terror of 1940s - to take care of your women while you commies were driving your tractors and singing praises to Stalin.

@Kihnu They got shipped off because the were part of western backed anti-Soviet guerilla operations. There is a history of British centred Anglo-Saxon terrorism against Russia from Marxism to Islamic terrorism. http://www.nlpwessex.org/docs/ukraine-caspian.htm
