Awaiting anxiously for the masks to come of and see what "partnerships" and "friendships" endure.

we all understand russia is trying to show the world that it is a responsible power as its a member of the security council but i think russia is going to far by trying to please the west by taking a hardline stance against iran. they just don't learn lessons, the west can only be good to you when they need your help but after the problem is solved they will push their anti-russian agendas. instead of taking a hardline against iran, russia should continue to "mediate" between the west and iran in this case because meshing up relationships with iran will be the biggest mistake they will ever do, i mean they won't have a barganing chip against the west in the future anymore. considering how russia is losing friends, (belarus is currently flirting with georgia to spearhead the anti-russian campaign) russia should play a fair game with iran because iran is strategically a very important country economically and politically. i am not saying they shouldn't critisise iran but the tones shouldn't be to high to please the US. if russia lose iran as an ally, this will be the best news china ever heard because this will mean good business and a strong important ally in the mideast. if medvedev is still playing the double standard game like the west, telling the world about iranian nukes program everyday and how dangerous it means for the world while ignoring 200+ nuclear warheads in israel. i am 100% against nukes whether its in iran's hand or russian's because the nukes are now being used to bully countries that are not following the big boys' orders. medvedev is trying too hard to please the US, i personally think he isn't a true leader like putin who is very patriotic and doesn't compromise when it comes to russia's interests.

I agree petrus; I think that Russia must not sell-out Iran. Selling out Iran will make other future Russian allies EXTRA cautious. Honestly, I think that Russia (in the long run) needs Iran in order to defeat the New World Order.

I thoroughly agree with golden rice. Solidarity with Iran against the aggression of the west, especially the U.S. and Israel is needed now more than ever. Eventually they will go after Russia as well if a weak and subservient regime can be established in Iran. Why did want to sell the puppet Shah regime atomic power plants and enrichment facilities before but not now to an independent Iran. Control of oil and naked aggression is their aim.

Totaly agree with u guys! Russia must stand with Iran! But i think Russia alredy sold out Iran! Russia changed its stance on Iran after Medvedev and Obama met last time! Very dramaticaly. Some deals were made, Russia got out of the way!

If the Iranian government and the Russian government have lots of common interests doubtless these will help overcome any temporary differences. As for the idea Russia needs to support Iran against American aggression this is absurd. The USA has multiplied its government debt by several hundred percent in waging its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Afghanistan it has a weak government. So weak that it is almost useless to the occupying forces. In Iraq it has a government that may be overthrown the day after the last American soldier leaves. Even if it was prepared to set the Middle East ablaze to overthrow the current Iranian regime there is no reason to suppose the result would be anything other than a disaster for the ruling elites in the USA. They would no more be able to put out the resulting religious/political fire the invasion would start than they were able to put out the Afghan fire they started to discomfort the USSR. What needs to happen if for the President of Iran to tone down his rhetoric and get real.
