RT’S REPORTING ON UKRAINE IN THE FINALS OF MONTE-CARLO TV FESTIVAL

MOSCOW, APRIL 16, 2014 – RT, the winner of the 2013 Monte-Carlo Television Festival for Best 24-hour News Programme, is once again a finalist in this category for its report titled “Anti-government Protests in Kiev, Ukraine”.

RT correspondents Alexey Yaroshevsky and Peter Oliver reported live as protesters poured into Maidan Nezalezhnosti – Kiev’s Independence Square – on January 22, 2014. RT operators captured exclusive footage as dozens of masked rioters pelted police with rocks and Molotov cocktails, while regiments of “Berkut” special forces tried to hold them off and secure government buildings.

RT is nominated in the news programs category alongside CNN, BBC News, Sky News and Canada’s CBC News Network.

In 2013 RT won gold at the Monte Carlo Television Festival in the same category for its coverage of the Chelyabinsk meteorite crash, beating CNN International, Sky News and Al Jazeera for the prize.

Monte-Carlo Television Festival, created in 1961 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, recognizes television as an exceptional means of bringing cultures together and enhancing their respective knowledge. The best of worldwide television programming is rewarded with the Golden Nymphs statuettes.

RT is a global international news network that broadcasts 24/7 in English, Arabic and Spanish from its studios in Moscow and Washington, DC, and is available to 644 million viewers worldwide. RT is the first TV news channel in history to cross the billion views mark on YouTube. RT is the winner of the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards for best 24-hr broadcast, and the only Russian TV channel to garner two nominations for the prestigious International Emmy Award in the News category.
